The Community Manager is a critical role in developing a strategic relationship with the Open Source community and internally with our engineering teams. They will build and lead a team chartered with developing Capital One’s brand in the Open Source community. The manager in partnership with the product and supporting teams is responsible for building vibrant community for Capital One’s sponsored products. They will act as a developer advocate to bridge relationships between internal and external engineering communities. They will nurture an Open Source culture internally. Finally, they will act in an advisory capacity for strategic technology decisions such as enterprise architectural standards, build vs buy, and commercialization.

As an Open Source Community Manager, you will be:

Developing Capital One’s Technology brand in the Open Source Community through speaking engagements at Open Source events, leadership on Open Source foundations, and interactions with community members
Working with subject matter experts across the business, legal, security, and technology organizations to define the lifecycle (launch to exit) of Capital One’s Open Source projects
Consulting with product teams to Open Source innovative solutions and build vibrant communities around them
Building strategies to drive internal and external developer engagement for Open Source products
Developing strategic ideas to leverage Open Source technology to solve business problems and enable new business opportunities
Conducting research on Open Source trends to inform strategic technology decisions such as enterprise standards, build vs buy decisions, and commercialization opportunities
Building coalitions with other companies to tackle shared problems and unifying solutions

Technology experience: You have experience with technology strategy, development, architecture
Open Source experience: You were/are an open project owner, regular contributor or project committee member, or an active member of an open source community foundation
Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree
At least 3 years open source marketing and product marketing experience in enterprise software technology
At least 3 years of hands on development experience
At least 3 years of experience with open source contribution process
Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s Degree
5+ years of experience in open source marketing or product marketing experience
5+ years of experience in qualitative analysis
2+ years of experience in people management
2+ years of experience in product development
2+ years of experience in financial modeling
2+ years of experience in economic forecasting
2+ years of experience in project management
A high level of technical understanding and experience in implementing and launching open source projects
Thorough knowledge of the software market, open source key players, and projects
Knowledge of the open source community and developers who participate in the open source project is critical
