Senior Director, Software Engineering - Risk ManagementCapital One is completely reimagining our risk management ecosystem.  As our company, and the world around us, moves increasingly towards automated AI-driven processes and user experiences, maintaining effective and equally automated governance processes that are proactively integrated into our enterprise technology capabilities is a top imperative.  We are looking for a team member who can accelerate our move to open source technologies, microservices, and machine learning-enabled risk management products.

 

As a Capital One Sr Director of Software Engineering you’ll be at the center of some of our most high-impact and challenging problems. You’ll report to the Divisional CIO for Risk Management, and be responsible for designing cutting-edge solutions utilizing microservice architectures and open source frameworks implemented in the cloud, working with various technologies: Java, Spark, relational databases, ML, API development, and AWS/Cloud Infrastructure to name a few.  We’re building software products and services, but the right candidate is someone who recognizes that ultimately data is at the heart of everything we do, and who is passionate mentoring a great group of engineers. We’re looking for someone who welcomes challenges and is hyper-focused on delivering exceptional results to internal business partners while engaging effectively in a team environment.

 

The Job:

  • Work across our Technology, Design, Product, and end-user organizations to develop and execute strategies and roadmaps that enable a modern approach to managing risk for the organization
  • Build and lead high-performing agile teams of 60+ data and software engineers
  • Manage the client portfolios for all of our credit risk products and capabilities, collaborating closely at senior executive levels to prioritize and plan investments, and to problem solve
  • Own engineering for a set of internally-built products that are actively shipping new features, and partner closely with data science end users to build fit-for-purpose environments & optimize model execution
  • Drive integration between these products and our newly transformed data ecosystem; lead local migration efforts to adopt new enterprise technologies for event-based, streaming, and big/unstructured data paradigms
  • Provide oversight for budgets and commitments, and manage technology risks and issues
  • Inspire a transformative engineering culture that attracts top talent to the team

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or military experience
  • At least 7 years of experience in Software Engineering practices
  • At least 7 years of experience in leading client engagements
  • At least 7 years of experience in People Management

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Management of Info Systems / Technology
  • Experience with the full AWS stack, microservice architectures, and technologies like Hadoop, Python, & Spark
  • Background in agile software development and Scaled Agile frameworks
  • 5 years of experience working as, or directly with, data scientists responsible for developing sophisticated models
  • Prior experience building GRC software solutions on a modern stack
  • Familiarity with CCAR, CECL and other relevant regulatory oversight frameworks
  • MS/MBA, ITIL, Six Sigma, Lean
